Photo shop tutorial on
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxgRneI6yfY
I needed to know how to use layers on photoshop because
the majority of photoshop is using layers and I had never
really used them before, I searched the tutorial on youtube
and it came up with various videos but I chose this one
to learn from. It helped me because it showed me how to use
layers using a stick man, here is a picture of it.

Production Monitoring Blog, 28th March 2011
Day by day last week I achieved a lot of things, I changed a lot of things on my front cover because I felt it wasnt quite good enough for the standard I wanted. Here is a screen shot of my front cover. I changed my cover dramatically last week by changing the Font from BA WET PAINT to WORLDVIEW font from daftfonts.com. I also added banners in for my writing to go over to create the ideal magazine. Everything ran smoothly apart from the fact that I couldnt decide what to write on the front cover because everything I chose didn't really fit in however I then got the right text that fit my magazine. Once again I used a lot of my of my photoshop skills such as downloading fonts into photoshop to use for my text and Main headline.
This week I need to complete my double page spread and front cover. I will try and finish my front cover today and on tuesday and then I will have the rest of the week to complete my double page spread. I may not have enough time to finish all of it so I will have to stay back at college most nights to finish it.

Production Monitoring Blog 21st of March
Last week I acheived quite alot with my production.Throughtout each day I was working on my front cover and deciding plans for my double page spread. Thing's didn't really run as smoothly as I thought they would because my skills weren't as up to date as I needed them to be. There was also some problems with the editing of my front cover because the layers on photoshop was adding effects that I didn't need so I had to alter theses, which took a lot of time and put me behind with my product but i quickly caught up during the week. I have learnt how to put different font's into photoshop from daftfont's.com, here is a screen shot of me doing this.
For this I had to copy and paste the font into the C drive then alocate it to the Fonts section in widows.
I also learnt how to add different shapes such as rectangle boxes to make the section for my mass head. This week I need to complete my front cover altogether so I can start on my double page spread and spend a few weeks doing that and completeing it . I will need to use all my skills on photoshop to do this to my best standards. I may face some problems doing this because I still need to take the photo's for the double page spread for next week. I could have some problems when im doing this because my camera may not work so I will haveto have a backup camera so I can continue with my product on time.

Production Monitoring Blog 14th March 2011
Last week I achieved a lot within my production. On the Monday I did my photo shoot for 45 minutes, 9:00-9:45. In this time I photographed the images for my front cover and my double page spread articles. Here is a shot of two of the photos that I took, which are also the photo’s that I will be using for my front cover and one of my articles. On the second day I uploaded my images and decided which ones I would use for what. I decided this by looking at the exposure, lightening, expressions and other characteristics of the photos.
On Wednesday I then began to design my front cover by looking at my flat plan of my front cover which had my main idea’s on and then taking it further to eventually placing my main image in the middle of the page and then editing this to make it look right. The next day, Thursday I added more smaller images onto the page that would relate to the subheadings of my double page spread. Everything went to plan in my schedule and especially in my photo shoot because I got every picture that I needed and I achieved this in the time that I had without any problems.
However it took me a lot longer to edit my photos than I expected because my photo shop skills have degraded in time because of the lack of use with it. This slowed down my schedule quite a lot. I also had some problems with my model that I used in the photo shoot because she was not wearing the correct costume that I needed her to wear on her bottom part of her body. I then had to only photograph the top half of her and zoomed in on her with the camera which then changed my plan of what I needed.
I have also learnt more skills on Photoshop and how to upload different fonts on to it from websites. I have also learnt how to place images onto other images using Photoshop. In my photo shoot, I learned how to use the backdrop properly and background lights within the studio. This week I need to complete all of my front cover and edit it all to the right standards that I need. On the Monday I will make sure all the photos are edited correctly and I will also finish my front cover and make sure everything is placed where it should be.
On Tuesday I will start my double page spread starting my first article. I will pick all the images that I will use in the articles. On Wednesday I will start writing the first article and on Thursday I will start writing the second article. To do this I will use my schedule for next week. I will use m Photoshop skills within this.

Magazine write up
Magazine write up, blog.
On my magazine front cover I have cropped my main image and placed it in the middle of the page to make enough room for various headlines about music and the main title of the magazine at the top. It was quite hard to get my model to act the way I wanted because I wanted a seductive pose but she was quite camera shy but I eventually got her to pull a cool face expression. She looked straight into the camera whilst I was taking the picture which made it look like she is looking at the person who will then look at the front cover of the magazine. I didn’t tilt the camera up or down which shows that she had no power or control over anything and her emotions are neutral. Since it was outside and it was rather snowy I had to get the ISO settings just right so I used 400. I had quite a few problems with taking my image because the photo was always out of focus and the model was always blurry and this was because of the snow so I had to use the correct shutter speed to make the picture in focus.

Side Lighting Photo's
This week I took images of my model using different lighting settings as well as shutter speed and apperture setting's. In this picture I made tghe photograph as light as I could because I wanted the image to have a light background to go on the front cover on my magazine. In this picture I placed my model against the a tree outside in the snow because that's where it was really bright outside to help the brightness and contrast of my image.
I also downloaded various brushes to help me with my images. Here is a screen shot of me doing this.

PhotoShop Tutorial
This is my photoshop tutorial. The tutorial was about how to hilight skintone and change it on photoshop so when I come to use photoshop in media I will now know how to change the tone and shade of someones skin.
Mock up Magazine Front Cover 2
In my second mock front cover I used various things on photoshop to help me create my front cover. I used transparancy tools to create a main layer at the top of the mage for my title to go on and I also used various text tools such as resizing and colour changes to create cell lines on the front cover. The main image was took myself using different apperture times to make the background of the picture blurry.

media practical 1
For this picture I used a shutter speed of 60/1000 to get the right speed for the torch to show up on my photograph.
For this image I wanted the leaves to look like they had just been chucked into the air without any blurryness of the person in the background, i made them throw leaves in the air and try jump at the same time to do this. I used a shutter speed of 40/1000
In this practical lesson I have learnt how to use shutter speed correctly because before hand I didn't know how to use it. Shutter speed is used to get the right movement in your photograph so you can capture the movement of an image without it being blury. I used this skill effiecently as I could however my main weakness was still gaining blury images and forgetting what the shutter speed was. My strength was being able to focus properly on the image and capture it so I achieved what being able to use shutter speed correctly. To progress I need to remember what my shutter speed is after takeing the pictures for when I edit them.

Posing Pictures
In this practical lesson I took pictures of my model illustrating different poses to go on my magazine. I was given a sheet of different poses to create with an image using my model. I chose this pose because it is very seductive and would appeal to the younger target audience. I learnt how to help my model be confident in posing when being in photo's and I also learnt various ways inwhich I could use different poses to fit with different thing's. Thursday, 11 November 2010
Mock up Magazine 1
This is my mock up magazine front cover. I have used different
elements of photoshop to help me create it, the first one I used was exporting fonts from the internet called BA WET PAINT for my main heading. I used various text tools such as resizing the text and colour elements. I imported photos from the interent such as the bar code and resized the image. I used layers to apply them on to eachother to make the magazine. I took the main image myself and used magnetic lasso to cut it out and place it in the middle.

Techical Codes Deconstruction
Technical Codes Deconstruction
Cinematography
Camera Distances
In the beginning of the clip there is a long shot of the scene of the crime with Pablo in the middle, it's a long shot to establish the setting and make the audience knows what has happened by being able to see everything.
There is a close up of Pablo when someone is pulling drugs out of him showing the audience a particular part of him drawing them in.
There is a close up/lcu of the gun on the table, this is to get emotion out of the audience and show them just the gun so they would think about why it's going to be used.
There is yet again another close up of the drug itself when it is being described in sound. The use of the close up is giving emotion to the audience and is thrilling.
There is a medium shot of everyone in the club to establish the setting and where drugs are usually taken.
After that there is a long medium of Pablo and a girl on the toilet floor sniffing coke. It's a medium long shot to show everything in the setting and to give the feeling of being closed in.
There is a ecu/extreme close up of the a body audience to show emotion from the audience to see what drugs do to your body.
To show what happens when you take such drugs and to get a big impact from the audience there is then a close up of a bleeding nostril.
Camera Movement
The camera moves very quickly throughout the clip giving us high and low angles along with point of view angles.
When we see the drugs being taken out of Pablo when he is dead, a high angle is used in the scene. The high angle shows weakness and a loss of power towards the character which would be Pablo.
The camera quickly zooms in and out of the shot of the drugs giving the audience the impression that drugs are bad because we quickly escape from them when the camera zooms away.
When the girl is in the toilet sniffing coke and Pablo is watching her a low angle is used. This gives the impression that she has a sense of dominance and power. Which she thinks she will because she's taking drugs.
Straight after that when the girl is talking to the dog a high angle is used on the dog to show yet again that he is powerless because he is a dog.
Framing
Allot of open and closed frames are used within the clip to give variation when attracting the audience.
A open frame is used when the crime has been committed and the dog is dead this is to show the audience everything in the scene is there and important.
A closed frame is used when we see the drug taker to show that he is the main character in the clip apart from Pablo.
An open frame is used again at the club to establish the setting and let the audience know that where the drug taker is, is very important.
A closed frame is then used again when the drugs are on the table and it closes in on the most important thing. Which is the drug itself.
Mise En Scene
Setting
The story is based at home in the kitchen and then goes to a club and then the setting ends up being at a crime scene.
Décor
The background is just a traditional kitchen which is a bit untidier than normal. it has things like a kettle, microwave and cupboards. Yellow walls that look unclean.
Props
The props being used in this scene are mainly the drugs, dirty plates with old food on, chairs, table, gun ,a cup which probably has ether coffee or alcohol in.
Lighting
At the start the lighting is quite dim giving the audience a dark and gloomy feeling about the advert. When the man is sorting out his drugs the lighting gets brighter to show the audience that the main character in the advert is actually the drug cocaine. In the club the lighting is flashy and there are alot of bright colours going on and off to show the audience what kind of a setting the drug dealer was in and where drugs are more likely to be used.
Body Language/Facial Expressions
Throughout the clip the man with the drugs is always moving his body, shakeing when he needs more drugs. When he is sorting the drugs out his facial expressions give out concentration.
The dog doesn't show any body language or facial expressions because he is dead .
Colour
Most of the colours are depressing and boring, hints of yellow and dingy colours. Yellow is usually a nice colour but when its being used for the kitchen walls it looks dark and unclean which represents a drug dealer. In the club , bright reds are used to give off danger.
Costume
The people in the narrative are wearing normal clothes because they are normal people however they aren't really dressed up to standard. Their clothes are quite scruffy and plain for a night out. The girl is wearing jeans ,trainers and a boring top which isn't really what you wear on a night out. The drug dealer is wearing a scraggy jumper.
Sound
Non Diegetic Music
Non Diegetic Narration
Diegetic Dialogue
In the clip, the man is always talking rather quickly like he is agitated because of the drugs, there's one point where he shouts loudly with excitement when he is sorting the drugs out. Most of the speech comes from Pablo who talks the whole way through which is humorous because dogs can't talk.
It has a sensitive but sarcastic voice the whole way through. The girl who is taking drugs in the toilet also talks like she is agitated and hooked on drugs.
Diegetic Sound Effects
Sound effects were used in the club , music was playing to set the scene of an actual club. More sound effects are used when we see the close up of the heart beating rather vigorously. Its making a padoom sound. The music in the background will give the audience emotion.
Diegetic Ambient Sound
Editing
Editing Pace
The narrative flows well throughout the clip because each scene jumps into another scene at the right pace. Sometimes it jumps quickly, for example when Pablo is on the chair it very quickly jumps to him being dead in the middle of a crime scene. However some scenes jump to another scene slowly for example when Pablo is outside at the end of the clip looking at the payphone, the camera slowly jumps towards the phone.
Editing Cuts and Transitions
All of the scenes in the clip jump to another scene which is a cut.
An example of this is in the beginning when we are watching Pablo on the chair, it then jumps to him being dead on the floor in the middle of a crime scene.
